Score your lyrics before Suno does

The usual way to find out whether a lyric sheet works is to generate, listen, guess what went wrong, change something, and generate again. Somebody on r/SunoAI titled a tips post "Some tips I found after using about 20k credits (lol)", which is the price of that method written down.

Most of what goes wrong is visible on the page first.

What a messy sheet scores

Here is a lyric written the way people actually paste them, straight prose with a note to the singer in it:

and every single thing I own is still exactly where you put it down

I am not angry I am only tired of the fire
and everything I wanted turned into desire

Pasted into the free Suno lyrics check with a Style field of "indie folk, melancholic, acoustic guitar, female vocals, 90 bpm", it comes back at 2 out of 10, labelled "Needs work", with:

Nine findings under it. Two are marked "Fix first": there are no section tags, so five lines will be sung as one block with the same energy, and one line runs 19 syllables. Three more lines are over the threshold. The parenthetical will be sung out loud. And there are two low-cost notes, "neon" and the pair fire and desire.

The number is arithmetic, not a verdict

The tip beside the ring says what it is: "Ten minus a penalty per finding. Rushed lines, untagged blocks and over-length cost the most; clichés and rhyme notes cost little and are capped. The number is a guide, not a grade."

The label under the ring follows the number rather than adding to it. Eight and above reads "Suno-ready", five to seven "Almost there", below that "Needs work". Three words for three situations, and the only one worth acting on is the middle one, where a couple of fixes move you.

Two out of 10 does not mean the song is bad. It means the sheet trips nine of the checks in the list, and those checks are about whether Suno can perform what you wrote, not whether it was worth writing. A song you love can score 4. A sheet of nothing can score 10.

The same lyric, twenty minutes later

Nothing here needed new writing. The sections got named, the long lines got split, the direction moved out of the parentheses, and the finished rhyme went:

That returns 10 out of 10, "Suno-ready", "+8 since last check", and where the findings were there is one line: "Nothing to fix. Paste it into Suno."

The stats moved too, from 78 syllables to 51, and from 0:50 to 0:33. The second sheet says less. That is what happened when the lines that could not be sung comfortably were cut down to the ones that could, and it is a decision you get to disagree with, in front of you, before you pay for it.

Note

Each finding with an in-app fix carries a button, "Fix the meter in Heho", and a line under the list: "Free account. Your lyric comes with you into the editor." The rewrite above was done by hand in a text file, which is the point of showing the score first.

Ten seconds against a generation

The check runs on word lists, a pronouncing dictionary and arithmetic. No model, no credits, no account. The whole pass is over before you have finished reading the first finding.

The alternative is what the credit threads describe. In February 2026 somebody reports fifteen hundred credits gone in three days, against songs that came back at 7:59 with the lyrics ignored. Not all of that is fixable on the page. The nine findings above were.

What the score does not measure

It does not measure the song. There is no check for whether the second verse says anything, whether the hook is any good, or whether the story is worth four minutes, and a high number on a boring sheet is a boring sheet that will be sung clearly.

It does not cover every language. Syllables and rhymes work in French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Italian; the pronunciation and cliché lists are English as of September 2026.

And it does not know what Suno will do on the day. The estimate is arithmetic over your syllables and tempo, not a promise about the generation, which is why the honest use of it is to remove the problems you can see and stop guessing about the ones you cannot.
