Replace Section changes more than the words

One line in the second verse is wrong. You highlight it, type the better version, and what comes back is a take where the singer sounds like somebody else for eight bars.

The feature did what it says. It is worth reading what it says.

What Suno documents Replace Section doing

Suno's help center, read on 6 September 2026, describes it as "an editing feature that allows you to replace a part of your songs", available to "Pro and Premier subscribers". The steps are: open More Actions, choose Edit, pick Replace Section, "click and drag to highlight the section you'd like to replace", change the lyrics in the left panel, then press Recreate Section.

Then the part people skip. You get "two new versions", you pick one, and "Suno will create a new Whole Song including the updated section. These are tagged as Section and Full Song."

We re-read the page on 11 September 2026, after v6 launched, and it is unchanged. Suno's page on what is new in v6 lists Replace Section among the tools now powered by v6, so the section take and the new whole song both come from the new model.

So the output is not your track with a patch applied. It is a section take, plus a new song that contains it. The Song Editor page lists the neighbors of that operation: edit lyrics on a highlighted region, extend from the right edge, crop, fade in and out, move sections, create new ones.

What users reported when it drifted, and when

The community record on this is loud and old, which is worth saying before quoting it.

In February 2025, someone who had made more than 20 songs with the feature reported it breaking after a redesign: "I get completely different songs, it doesn't manage to keep original voice and melody anymore. It just creates a totally different vibe, sometimes it even doesn't follow the words." A reply describes the same thing on extends, with the join suddenly audible where it had not been before.

A month later, on a guide thread, somebody asks the question plainly: how do you get good replaces, when every replacement comes back with a different voice or sound.

Both are from the V4 era, 18 months before this article, and the editor has been rebuilt since. Nobody has published a comparable test on the current one. Read them as a description of the failure mode rather than as the current state, and if you run the test yourself you will know more than this piece does.

Select the whole phrase and keep the syllable count

The selection is a drag over the waveform, so it decides how much of the performance is regenerated. Grabbing one word inside a sung phrase gives the model a fragment to match; grabbing the phrase gives it a musical unit.

Then write a replacement that fits the same space. Here is a chorus with a line that is not landing:

And the replacement, which changes the image and nothing else:

Eight syllables before, eight after. The melody that was written for the first line still fits the second one, which is the only part of this you control completely.

Suno's help pages do not document a way to keep the original voice through a replace, and they do not name any repair step for the seam. If a guide tells you otherwise, ask it where that is written.

Regenerate when the problem is bigger than a phrase

Replace Section earns its credits on one bad line, one wrong word, one section that says the right thing badly. It is the wrong tool when two sections are weak, when the arrangement is the problem, or when you are still deciding what the song is.

The help page also settles a smaller question: you are offered two versions of the section and you pick one. That choice is part of the feature rather than a trick, so listen to both before taking the first.

What Replace Section will not do

It will not work on a free account, since the documentation limits it to Pro and Premier as of September 2026.

It will not promise you the same voice. Nothing in the documentation says the surrounding performance is preserved, and the community reports above are the only public evidence about how well it holds, dated 2025.

And it will not fix a section that is wrong because the writing is wrong. A replacement of the same length, saying the same thing in different words, tends to come back with the same problem in a different voice.

Before your next replace, count the syllables in the line you are removing and write the new one to that number.
